Are salon quality products really worth the cost?

I have a chi hair straightener and it was WORTH IT. But, my hair still just gets too dried and tangled. Whenever I get it cut the stylist makes it look perfect. Is it the products that she uses that really make the difference? And if they are, then how can I get them for less? Are salon quality products really worth the cost?
i agree chi has the best straightener! salon products are definitely worth it. especially considering a little goes a long way. why types of prducts are you considering?sometimes you can find products on ebay. if your hair is dry i would suggest you use something before you straighten your hair to protect it.a flat iron can dry your hair out if not. i use aquage defining gel and beyond shine spray. also look into a texturizing paste this hepls to smooth the hair and piece it out.Are salon quality products really worth the cost?
OK it depends on do u know what you are doing and how you do it. the product dosent really matter. when straighting ur hair, you should shampoo good, deep conditioner for 10 minutes, comb it and part hair little by little to get it straight, dont part the hair in big sections cause you are not going to get what u want. when you go the salon they do roller sets and sit underneath a dryer. so if u want, think about getting a head dyrer and rollers
biosilk always helps to put in before straightening, it helps ur hair not get as damaged and gives it a shine. Put hair spray in ur hair then comb ur hair then straighten, repeat as u go onto each part/section of ur hair ur doing. chi products help if u use a chi straightener!

How much for a construction build out for a salon, and a biz sign?

Does anyone have an estimate of how much I can expect to spend on the build out for a salon that is about 1200 sq ft, and I am referring to the construction only, and not the equipment. The space is in vanilla box condition so it will need floors, painting, electricity, and plumbing etc. Please serious responses only. Also any estimates on how much an overhead business name sign might cost. How much for a construction build out for a salon, and a biz sign?

What should I take with me to a tanning salon?

For sunbeds not the spray ons.

Do I have to take materials with me or it's all included? What should I take with me to a tanning salon?
they have things that go over your eyes. they might come with, or i went to a place they were .50 so make sure you use that. also, bring lotion to put on afterward. or they have some that you put on before. just bring a little extra money with and talk to them about the stuff they have. What should I take with me to a tanning salon?
You need to bring your own lotion for sure. Some places provide steralized goggles, however others don't. Check with them first to see if you need to bring your own (or you can buy a pair from them).

I wouldn't worry about lotion for after you get out of the bed if your lotion has bronzers in it. Those still work for a few hours after you leave the tanning salon and you will want to let them work before altering the results with lotion. But make sure you use lotion after you take a shower after tanning.

The salon will provide towels and stickers to moniter your tan if you chose to do that.

Also you might want to bring an ipod if they don't provide radios because the time seems to drag if you don't. However I would recommend putting the ipod on the floor next to the and running the headphone cord up behind your head to your ears when you are laying down to prevent getting cord tan lines across your arm, face and chest.
I hope you realise that you can still get skin cancer from tanning beds. You might as well sit out in the sun and lather yourself in oil.....same result.

I would connect with their local urban league and find out where the predom black neighborhoods are. Investigate the beauty schools and see where they are placing graduates, or even look up churches in the area and call and find out where the sisters are getting their hair done.

What is the proper tip rate for getting a well done cut and color at a trendy salon?

I recently got my hair done at a salon after they were very helpful in originally getting me a protein treatment/filler for my damaged hair. I decided to make an appointment to go back and get my hair colored and cut several days later. My stylist was wonderful both times, and she deserves a great tip, but I don't even know what the going rate for.. pricier salons is.What is the proper tip rate for getting a well done cut and color at a trendy salon?
My friend is a hairstylist who works at a trendy salon downtown and she usually gets about a 10-15% tip. If a client really loves her work then she'll usually get a 20%, which is what I give her because she does an amazing cut and color on my hair! If you love it and can afford it, tip your stylist well - especially if he or she spent a lot of time on you. What is the proper tip rate for getting a well done cut and color at a trendy salon?
um I would say at least 5 $
When my stylist does a great job and it involves some effort (like highlights), I try to give 10-20% My highlights + wash, style and blow dry come to about $85. I give my stylist a $10 tip.

When I get a regular cut which includes: shampoo, cut and blow dry- the cost is $30. I give her $6.

Is there a salon that gets rid of ur lice for you?

is there one? and if so how much would it be?Is there a salon that gets rid of ur lice for you?
actually there are salon's that are for lice treatment only, i don't think this person is talking about a styling salon obviously! there are places out there that will pick through your hair one stand at a time, that is what they are there for. it is time consuming but as far as i am concerned nit picking is the only way to rid a person of lice. the shampoos only kill the bugs and the combs do not take the nits out. so you have to pick them out. since they are so small you have to look at each individual strand. so what if you are single and have no one to do this for you, this is where the the lice salons come in. they are very pricey some range from 50-100 dollars an hour and it will take 2-3 hours for most people with longer or thicker hair.

for all of you who say don't go to the salon it will spread it, your just simple. try thinking and answering first. if your answering on yahoo you must have internet access so try searching the subject before you give a wrong answer, that is how i found the correct answer. the salons are on the internet just look around sweetie it will be okIs there a salon that gets rid of ur lice for you?
No. You can't go to a salon to get it done because lice can be transferred to other people very easily, and working in a hair business, that would be very bad. You'll have to get an at home treatment and do it yourself. I was kicked out of a place when I was 12, and getting my hair cut, because I had lice... but I was lucky that the woman was nice enough to finish up the hair cut she had started on me.
dont go to a salon! it will spread to everyone else..get someone to get you some lice shampoo. or you could put mayonnaise on your head and put a shower cap over it and let it sit for a while..it helps the lice go away(:
Not that I know of. But these soaps kill lice on your hair. But you have to make sure to wash your sheets and pillow case in hot water as well:

    http://www.earthartandfoods.com/soapline鈥?/a>
If a Salon finds lice in your hair, they will not serve you. So the answer to this is obvious, no.

i like mystic tanning, but that's just because i get uncomfortable if i'm naked around other people.

Anyone familiar with the salon setting machine called the Swiss Waver? Supposed to be good for soft wavy style

I am thinking about having my hair set this way and wonder what it is like. It is said to be a good way to style your hair for sexy waves.Anyone familiar with the salon setting machine called the Swiss Waver? Supposed to be good for soft wavy style
THE SWISS TRIO WAVE SYSTEM FROM DEPASQUALE COMPANIES COMES STATESIDE

In January, DePasquale Salon Systems introduced the Swiss Wave Trio System to more than 100 top salon owners from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. This two-day event was held to launch the Swiss Waver and Founder Jurgen Sahm mesmerized everyone with model demonstrations that resulted in breath- taking curls a la Sarah Jessica Parker. What was even more fascinating to salon owners was the little time it took to create beautiful waves. This multi-functional tool did it in half of the stylists鈥?time, which offered stylists the opportunity to book other additional appointments. How it works: Stylists simply apply special lotion to hair after it has been set in special setters. They are then connected to the unit鈥檚 twenty-seven tubes, and warm air is blown through the curlers, which allows for the hair to dry from the inside, out. Lastly, stylists rinse the hair with a special conditioner and then blow it out.

Its works best on 'european' hair.

Going to a hair salon for the first time?

I'm planning on going to a hair salon for the first time, but I'm scared that the hair stylist might ruin my hair because I'm mixed, and my hair is curly but it's not a black hair salon. I'm going to get a straight perm. What do you think, should I still go to that salon? Thanks.Going to a hair salon for the first time?
Yes, the salon should have the products to straighten your hair. If they didn't they wouldn't have given you an appointment. You will just have to get use to having straight hair, it's different and you'll probably love it.Going to a hair salon for the first time?
It's your choice whether you want to go to a hair salon or not. The best advice I can give you is go to a hair salon that you can trust and they can provide great maintenance for your hair.

I learned that from different salons, different people put different things in my hair, and my hair may look like it's all that, but I realize the day I wash my may hair it's all crap that they're putting in my hair. After that my mother, my aunts, and I just do my hair at home. There are good hair salons that I went to reccommended by my aunt and they're great. But you just need to know the people.

Not all hair salons are bad, just go to hair salons that you know you can trust and that they will do great for your hair. So if you want to do your hair at the salon...go for it girl, it might be a great experience. Good luck!! :)
The hairdressers are professionals and know exactly how you want your hair, if you describe it to them properly. A good tip is NOT to go to a hairsalon that doesn't know good english. Even though they are professional hairdressers they wont understand you because you speak english to them very fast. They would know how to cut your hair properly in their country because everyone speaks that language (Arabic, Spanish, Farsi etc)
You can and should talk with the stylist, let them know how you are feeling, your frights. What's their experience and all (not to question their ability), but they should understand the questioning, it's your hair. If you have doubts then go somewhere else. Best to you!
I would go to a salon who is familiar with your hair, if not you could get in trouble. I would go to a hair salon where they knew how to do the best job possible on my hair type.
Your hair stylist is a professional. Talk to her for a little bit, if you feel comfortable with her handling your hair, go on with the appointment. If you have a stylist you know and love, go with them instead.

spafinder.comWhat is the best salon go to get my hair curl done?
You do what you always do.

When you see someone with the kind of style you want, you ask them where they go. You will eventually hear of a salon that does most of this work.

You then have a consultation with one of the stylists. Not to get anything done, but to discuss a style you would like. They can then see your hair, and you, and make suggestions of what they think would look better on you. They will discuss cuts, colours, curls, whatever you need. After that, you can go home and think about it. When you decide, you will know where to go.

  • Should I buy a hairdryer from Walmart or a hair salon? and what are the differences?

I need a new hairdryer and was wondering if I should go to walmart tonight and get one or is I should wait and go get a more expensive one from a hair salon? Also, what would be the pros and cons of each?Should I buy a hairdryer from Walmart or a hair salon? and what are the differences?
If you're just planning to use it for normal drying as opposed to styling your hair, I'd say get one from Walmart. But if you're a big hair freak and is really particular about styling your hair, then of course get one from the hair salon. The price might be a little more expensive but it'll be worth it in the end.Should I buy a hairdryer from Walmart or a hair salon? and what are the differences?
i say save money and go to walmart, cause they last pretty long and what really is the difference?

the hair salon just has another brand name, it does the same job so why spend more ma.

Should i open a salon or a coffeeshop?

I renovated the 1st floor of my apartment that im renting at my own expense to a salon. i havent started operating yet coz some of my friends advised me to put up a coffeeshop instead. . theres already a coffeeshop nearby. also a salon which is 2 blocks away which just opened. Im confused what to open now. or should i just find another place to start something? But i already spent alot on renovations %26amp; it would be a waste of money. . Should i start something here and what, or should i just start somewhere else?Should i open a salon or a coffeeshop?
If your locaton has a lot of foot traffic goes by, a coffee shop may work. However, you would probably need to do or offer something different from the one thats near you (free wi-fi, poetry or karoake nights, a unique pastry or beverage etc.) However, if there isnt the needed foot traffic, do the salon. Just make sure you get stylists in there that have a good customer base so that can consistently pay booth rental in your shop. Also increase your profits more by adding the sell of styling and skin care products. A big trend now with salons is te whole ';spa'; concept. So look at how you can create a spa feeling and add spa services (massages, facial/skin treatments, manis/pedis,etc). Good luckShould i open a salon or a coffeeshop?
I think you open a salon because that was your first decision. Don't let ur decisions go wild just because of a few comments from friends. Follow your heart.
I would say a coffee shop if you have a good blend, or blends of coffee and also pastries.

Location and product will make your business successful.

    Make it comfortable.

I find if it is a little trendy, comfortable and unique, people don't mind paying for the experience.

Don't be typical, go the extra mile and you will be successful
ONE OF THOSE OLDEN DAYS CANDY / SODA FOUNTAIN STORES ? A REALLY FAMILY JOINT. CAN BE CALLED '; HAPPY MOMENTS '; , '; HUGS AND SMILES'; OR ';DAYS OF JOY ';.
why not do a combination salon/coffee shop. that would be sweet.
rent the place out and have a long holiday to think it over
The advantage of a salon is you can rent out chairs to aspiring stylists who want to start their own bussines, yet don't have the money to open their own shop. By doing this, you reduce labour overhead and maybe (look this up) be able to reduce your taxes due to you hiring contractors to do the work, not direct employees. The coffee shop does not have his advantage.
Do what you're good at. If you're good at making coffee (and atmosphere) open up a coffeeshop. If you're better at cutting hair do that. Otherwise a safe bet is to rent it out to someone else.
I think a coffee shop would be better...I doubt it would be as expensive to open and you wouldn't need as much staff as you would if you had a salon. Just make sure you make your coffee shop really unique, preferably with a theme maybe 50's style would be cool!! :) So that it stands out from them other coffee shops around the corner.

    Good Luck!!
u can run a salon at the meantime sell some snack food, western food and coffee, cold drink inside, when your customer do their hair or they might have to wait for their turn, they can enjoy the food and read magazine at the same time, so they won't feel bored.
well you are probably safer with the coffee shop, but it depends on what makes the most profit!

why not make a list of pros/cons for each?
well depend if you have so much money to spending on and on God bless more coffee shop are running too so are the salon around I know area one little town where the per family income is about $50,000 or little more but have about 10 salon in about less then a 1/4 miles ok not sure about exect measurement but looks like it and will try not to give anyboddy bad advise even in a joke well I try I believe good advise is like a blessings.all 10 salons are running and still open so somebody is able to pay rent and living so for themself out of salons.so hey hear what your pocket is saying to you and respect others pocket too.if all those people who advise are ready to come after opening what ever you open and more because you keep them happy too.Ok I just opened up a website and looking for more costomers too its great style and pretty reasonable to catch that rich person style.Good luck.

Promote yourself on the street. Go to businesses and say ';Hey, I love your store and I would love if you could put some of my business cards on your front desk near the register. Of course, I would put your cards by my register to. This will benefit both of us :).'; Get your family to recommend you to their friends. Go to wedding stores and put your fliers around there. Put fliers in peoples mail boxes :) That's all I can think of. Hope I helped (:

Put together a business plan that includes demographics, commission or rental salon, products and services your salon will offer. Do your research on cost of equipment, stations, dryers, plumbing. After putting together your business plan add up all your costs, and make a appt. with a sba banker to apply for a loan good luck. Hopefully you are licensed as it is hard to run a salon if you do not know the industry.

Is there a way to make my hair redder without a hair dying kit or a salon?

My hair is light brown/red and i want to make it even redder... possibly darker but i don't have a hair dying kit because i don't have time to get one and im not going to a salon. is there ANY way to make my hair this way just naturally with household things? Is there a way to make my hair redder without a hair dying kit or a salon?
Henna rinse will probably do it. It's hard to say what the exact shade will be.Is there a way to make my hair redder without a hair dying kit or a salon?
    Use Henna.
it isn't possible. henna is ';natural'; but it's still a hair color. and it is impossible to know what color it will become. you could try Kool-aid and water rinse on your hair. the red color in the drink mix will stain the hair...but if your hair is blonde it will become pink.

Do you wash your hair at home before you get your press and curl at the salon?

I wanted to know for those of you who get press and curl, do you wash your hair at home before you go to the salon to get it pressed and curled. My hair is kinky(very tightly curled) It's been a long time so I don't remember what I did. Thanks.Do you wash your hair at home before you get your press and curl at the salon?
Wash your hair yourself if you have special products that work very well on your hair. When your hair doesn't turn out they way it should (smooth/shiny) she will blame it on whatever products you have used at home. To avoid blame if your style doesn't hold up, let her wash your hair at least for the first time.Do you wash your hair at home before you get your press and curl at the salon?
I prefer to wash my hair at home. I trust my own washing. The only time I let them wash my hair if they colored or did a chemical treatment. I'm not so comfortable having my hair in a sink!
Before I go to the salon to get my hair done I don't wash it. Depends on what you are getting done the chemicals will take better if you don't wash it.
    if u wanna save money
    ya
It's been a long time for me too but i do remember that the hairdresser shampooed my hair beforehand. In fact my cousin who is a hairdresser will not press anyones hair unless it is freshly washed, and the only way she is satisfied that it is is if she herself washes it.
actually no but it depends all on the person cause if you guys go to the salon then wouldn't that mean that they would do that to you instead? well, yeah anyways it all depends rather the person seem to care or not care at all... just do it if you want to
Ive done both depends on the beautician usually they wash it but if they say they wont do it offer to wash at home they always told me they didn't have time for press and curls any more u may get a yes thats way cause sometimes its hard to find people who will do press and curls

Is it possible for a Law Enforcement Officer to also own and run a Barbershop/Hair Salon?

Say if this Officer had a barbers license and his wife was a licensed hair stylist and the officer only cut hair on his days off but the other emplyees worked 6 days a week and paid the officer booth rent(booth rent is when the barber or hair stylist pays the owner of the barbershop or Salon anywhere from $200 to $300 weekly to work in the workspace they work.) Would it be possible for the officer to handle business and law enforcement work? Thank you.Is it possible for a Law Enforcement Officer to also own and run a Barbershop/Hair Salon?
It is possible. Is it possible for a Law Enforcement Officer to also own and run a Barbershop/Hair Salon?
    Sure.

I know plenty of officers that have side ventures and businesses.....Though they are always really tired.
Any officer can work on the side either in his own business or ';projecting'; working in uniform like at concerts etc.. as long as he has permission from the Chief of Police.
Why wouldn't he? if a cop wants to cut hair there's no reason to hinder that.

Are you suppose to tip the owner of a salon?

Everytime I get my hair done, it's the owner of the salon that does it. Well, I've always tipped her, but my friend goes to her as well and she said that you're not suppose to tip the owner because they make all the money anyway. So, my question is, do you tip the owner or not?Are you suppose to tip the owner of a salon?
Yes you do...read the inside scoop at the link below...Are you suppose to tip the owner of a salon?
well if she treats ure hair well, tip her, otherwise no,because it would be wrong for her to accept it.
That is up to you , if she does a good job and you appreciate it, go ahead and do it. .
I say tip her for services rendered, she has rent and lights, and

other bills to pay to remain in business
By law the owner is claiming his/her ';Total'; income, Period. He/She is generally still working as hard and even more than the staff. Consider what other responsibilities this person is doing behind the scenes as well. So as a considerate customer that has a genuine heart. Than yes, if the hairdresser has given you work and generosity that deserves a little extra thank you, then yes. If it is not necessarily anything that moves you to tip, than don't tip as a way to communicate that. But, just be fare and honest. As the false conversation of not tipping a owner was started by a client, not the owner. No hairdresser that works the too sh off owner or not, would suggest no gratuity for a amount of time of hard work.
    DO NOT TIP THE OWNER...period.....
u tip who does ur hair not the owner
I go to the owner of the shop I go to and she wont let me tip her
who ever does your hair, owner or not, should be tipped.
If the owner is cutting hair then you should tip her. She has all the expenses of the salon to pay for. Usually she doe's not always get payed until all the other bills are payed for first, and if it is a slow month or week her workers will make more than her. Don't assume an owner of a business is making ton of money or any money at all. Many business' fail after 1 year because this is what they assumed when they got into bus in the first place only to find out all the bills and taxes and payroll that comes first. Beauty salon owners are there because they love what they do more than the money, so be generous and tip.
im a hairdresser and the owner should not execpt tips he she makes comision of their employees and for them to except tips is greedy. my boss does this too and it makes me sick i some times do pay roll i make about 60-70 thiusand dollars a year he makes 250 thousand dollars a year. we get tipped because we dont get full profit only a small pecentage usually about 40% they get 150 percent profit.

  • Do you think salon products are better than the stuff you get at stores?

Often you see similar products by the same companies even at both salons and stores. Do you think its worth the extra money to buy it at the salon? Beauticians claim theirs is better, but I would like opinions.Do you think salon products are better than the stuff you get at stores?
In my experience, some salon products are better. You pay more for a better mixture of more quality ingredients. Grocery store brands tend to cheap out on ingredients and supplant them with waxy additives and a higher mix of laureth sulfate (makes the bubbles and lather) for fillers. And I am not talking about botanicals and organics because there is absolutely no proof that those are any better than the chemically engineered ingredients. In fact, consumer studies have shown that botanicals have no benefit other than the buyer's perception that the product is somehow better for them.Do you think salon products are better than the stuff you get at stores?
Personally, I don't think that any of those are better than what you buy in the store. (A good haircut is far more important than the shampoo you use.) But...it doesn't hurt to splurge every once in awhile to see if one works especially well for you. And sometimes they smell amazing!!
I think they are better. The salon hairstylist recomended a shampoo with protein, at first i thought it was just a sales pitch, but i bought it anyway. My hair looks sooo much healthier!

I guess it depends, some may not be worht the extra $$$.
Sure, these are some of the greatest professional products out right now.

Redken can even customize according to your hair type.

One otc product that I do buy is at Sally's Beauty Supply, and is Infusium 23 leave-in-conditioner treatment; that I drizzle or put into a spray bottle and spritz lightly beofre styling.

its the same thing. store products may look like a little expensive because of the endorsement and commercials

No. Ther is so much ballyhoo out there It will blow your mind. We pay for the glitz %26amp; the glitter, %26amp; the advertising too.
there are bad expensive products and good cheap products i used the bad expensive for long long time different name brands and never got what i expected i ended using the good cheap that do work for me, right now i use the new dove and pantene my hair is finally going back to normal.
I use to buy in the salon but i dont anymore to me they are the same but I do get the biosilk from there still

I'm not trying to cut anyone's hair or anything just to clean and shampoo.Do I have to be licensed to work in a hair/beauty salon in Kentucky as a shampoo %26amp; cleaning girl?
I live in Indiana and I did it while I was in beauty school.

I didnt have to be licensed to do it. You would just have to talk to a salon manager and see if they needed you or not.

Can you make your nails look long with gel nails from a salon?

Hi, i have prom in june and i was thinking of getting acrylics, but decided no becuase acrylics eat up your nails and are hella bank for me! I have really tiny nails, and i was thinking of getting gelled nails?

can you tell me the difference between acrylics and gels? And can i make my nails look long with gels? Can you make your nails look long with gel nails from a salon?
Gel just looks better and its shinier so that's why its more expensive. You can ask to get a tip (tip = more $). Its going to be really long at first and they glue it on to your natural nail. They bring the cutter and ask you how long you would like it then they cut it and file it and all of that... so to answer your question : yes you can make your nails longer.

GHD's are the best straighteners EVER!!!!They cost me 拢100 but they're worth every penny!!!My hair was always really frizzy and really out of control!LOL, I could never wear it down coz it looked awful! But now that I have my GHD's I can wear it down and straight, style it down and curly, you can do alot of things with GHD straighteners!!! Go get someHow good are the ghd salon stylers?

love it, you will fall in love
i dunno wot the ghd iv styler is but i have ghd straighteners and they are the best in my opinion....
The thick salon stylers are really good for thick hair and even afro-carribean hair. If you cant afford the newer version, have a look around on the web because the older versions are good as well which i used 2 have ( i now have version 4) and if all else fails look on ebay. hope that helps
im my opinion ghd's are the best straighteners out there, my hair is thick and curly, they're the only ones i've ever tried which leave my hair straight all day. They're well worth the money
head to ebay your sure to find a bargain pair of ghd's!

i love them, they never fail to have my hair lookin at its best!

    the best money ever spent!

    good luck

    xx
Before i brought my ghd's i used to use remingtons. i have very thick frizzy hair and in my opinion the remingtons were just as good as the ghds and they only cost from around 拢25. The plus with ghd's is that you can also curl ur hair very well with them by twisting them around the tong, looks very nice.
The ghd's are the best on the market and it you have hard to manage hair they will be all the better for you i know they are a bit pricey at around 拢80 do you not know anyone that has a sally's card you could get a loan of and get them at the price that the salon does
    Hi,

I also received 4 free gifts too,ghd thermal protector,a DVD with complete styling tips %26amp; advice including how to curl hair, Iron mat to keep your straighteners safe and intensive treatment, And they are a great investment. I couldn't live with out mine now.

Is it worth paying money to have your makeup done in a salon?

I'm going to a ball with my boyfriend and scheduled a appointment to get my hair done in an updo. I figured while I was at it I would have them do my makeup too. They want to charge $50 just for the makeup application, do you think it's worth it? I dont wear much makeup and just thought I would try something diffrent for a special night. What if I hate it, should I go for it or not?Is it worth paying money to have your makeup done in a salon?
I would try either doing the makeup yourself, or having a friend do it for you.

If you don't wear a lot of makeup, then I would try getting some makeup and practicing some techniques yourself. You know what you like and a makeup artist may not give you what you like.

There are lot of tutorials on Youtube of people showing you step by step different looks. With practice, they are not hard to do.

Sometimes friends are the best resource, they know you and you can feel more comfortable telling them if you like something or not, plus you might not have to shell out 50 bucks to get makeup done.

Is it worth paying money to have your makeup done in a salon?
By getting your makeup at a salon, there are two problems. it's easier for someone who knows you to do your makeup because they know what you want. also, it is really hard to explain to them what your looking for because their trained to do such a vast job. i got my makeup done at a very famous salon in the city and i walked out very unhappy. i feel like they go for a more dramatic look then anything else. if you don't wear a lot of makeup, i think it is just easier for you to do it yourself because you know the proportions that work best with you. hope this helped!!
Well just remember this. There trained make up professionals ofcourse they'll do a good job.But one that you'll like thats kinda iffey. It's up to you if you wanna be out of $50. Do you have any friends that are good with putting on make up? If so ask them to do they probabley won't even charge you.And you'll still look beautiful.
At the malls they will put your make up on you 4 free u have 2 make an appointment and i all ways go 2 the lancome counter in belk. but most stores like macys and belk do that. Ive had it done at lancom and clinique and i loved it. again its free 2 do it but sum times they ask if u would buy a product

There are no good salons in my STATE,where to go?

chicago area! yeah! wooo hooo!! i'm originally from just south of you.

my second cousin , jeff gensler, is an AWESOME hairdresser. i think he still ownes his own salon, but i don't know the name of it, sorry. i usually have him do mine at home and i do his at home.

try to find him. he's incredibly talented. expensive , but worth every penny.

by the way, i love your avatar's hair. it looks like mine; but mine is darker. There are no good salons in my STATE,where to go?
What state are you in? What type of salon hair or beauty? There are no good salons in my STATE,where to go?
possible there is WHERE THE BLOODY ARE YOU ?
yeah, i can see from the hair style of your aviatar
I SUPPOSE YOU TRIED ALL OF THEM ? THERE ARE GOOD SALONS IN EVERY STATE . YOU NEGLECTED TO SAY WHICH STATE YOU'RE FROM .THERE ARE JUST DIFFICULT CLIENTS , AND NO MATTER HOW HARD THE STYLIST TRIES TO PLEASE YOU , YOUR JUST NOT HAPPY .
It's hard for me to believe that your entire state does not have even one decent salon. Usually you can at least find many good salons in the big cities in each state.
I would reccomend going to the phone book and looking for the logo ';Member of NCA'; which is the National Cosmetology association. This means they usually have higher education in the industry. This is very important because it means they are more up to date %26amp; into their craft. If none of the logos appear just call %26amp; ask if they are a member of the National Cosmetology Association.

Should I get my hair conditioned at a salon?

I have extremely damaged hair from straightening, coloring, curling, blow drying, and everything you can imagine since I was in first grade. I started coloring my hair in seventh grade and I know that my hair is super brittle, dry, and damaged. I have heard that you can get your hair conditioned at a hair salon. I want to know if that would help keep my hair healthier, stronger, and actually grow without breaking off.Should I get my hair conditioned at a salon?
it really depends on the type of conditioner..read the description of what it does..

usually at the salon they use REALLY high conditioner..and they damage ur hair if u use it too much..so i suggest reading what ur hair requires..

but yea, some of them are really helpful, they help with frizzing and protect ur hair..Should I get my hair conditioned at a salon?
yeah you should. I mean it only costs 10-15 bucks at a lot of places.

i'm not saying it will completely turn around the shape of your hair but will help a lot.

also you can use mayonnaise / olive oil / or of the shelves oil treatments
That's a good idea. There are a lot of hair products available, but a professional stylist can advise you how to grow healthy, undamaged hair.
yes do it it makes ur hair shiny and nice
sure. you can also use green tea oil.
yes you need deep conditioning PRONTO! thats way too much damage. dont forget trims/cuts! seriously. and chill out on the styling....its not good for your hair, esp in the long run

What are some of the thing I will need to do to open a nail salon or spa?

I am interested in what NY state requires a person to have to open a nail salon? What are some of the thing I will need to do to open a nail salon or spa?
go to the ny state board of cosmetology and they have all the rules and regulations...call or go on internet site...What are some of the thing I will need to do to open a nail salon or spa?
New York Small Business Resource Center - Home at www2.nypl.org/smallbiz/
First of all keep up the desire .... that is very important ... business terms i am not too familiar with them nor the steps to follow but i can give you the best secret for success.... While you have your business specially this type, you should always have the best products for your customers. Never sacrifice benefits versus prices. Let me explain, i have a friend who started her own business and she opened her new salon and spa ....people love to see the new thing and she had so many customers but she started buying cheap products and using them with her clients and charging them at regular salon prices and no results where seen in many. I am using a swiss skin care line for my face and body, https://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/arb鈥?/a> ... and it has been great and told her to sell it at her salon. She started t sell them in her salon and she is amazed of the benefits the clients have been seeing... the difference of these products is that they delivers results they are called beauty without cruelty because they are formulated without animal products or by products, they are formulated without mineral oil which is the 2nd worse thing you could do to your skin, it will be like rubbing car oil on your skin and then exposing your self to the sun ... and animal products, don't get me started with this... animal products come from these plants (renedering plants) and they are the recycling for animals, they pick all dead animals from the road, marketplaces, etc and they put them in a huge pot and squash everything inside and boil it, the oil that comes to the top is what other companies use to elaborate their products... gross i know....even lipstick come form these .. euuuu.... anyway, just wanted to tell you this so you could succeed with your busines and start making people aware with what they use on their skin....

How old should you be to be able to get fake nails at a nail salon?

i'M 12 AND GET FAKE NAILS, IS THAT OK?IT'S FUN TO DO WITH FRIENDS!I'VE HEARED IT'S BAD FOR YOU BUT WHY?How old should you be to be able to get fake nails at a nail salon?
You are old enough for it, but I'd really save it for a special occasion, like a wedding or something like that. I would guess that you probably have too much of an active lifestyle and many more fun things going on in your life to always have to worry about how your nails look all the time. It's also quite expensive in the long run. The more often that you have it done, the more it could damage your natural nails, because they file off the top layers of your nails to get the fake nails to bond with your own nails. That leaves your natural nails thinner and weaker. I think it would be much better to have a spa night at home, where you and your friends could all do regular manicures on your own nails, and have a great evening having fun and talking with each other. How old should you be to be able to get fake nails at a nail salon?
Uuuuuhhhhh.... There is no law that puts an age limit on getting fake nails. It's not like you're getting away with something illegal.
There isn't a certain age you have to be to get fake nails. It's not exactly BAD for you, but it's bad for your nails. The less you do, the better it is for yourself, especially at the age of 12. Taking of your fake nails also takes off a layer of your actual, real nail which is painful and unhealthy for your nails. It's entirely up to you (or your mother), but I wouldn't let my daughter do it until her prom days.
    ur too young!!!!!!!!!!!

    wait until u r 14 or 15
i got mine when i was 13. it was for an occasion, but still.

but be carefull, when i had them i was always breaking a nail, and yes it hurts alot!!!

also it hurts a little when you take them off, so its your decision when to get them, id say 13-15.
no you are not to young to get fake nails i see a lot of girls have it but. it can be bad if you keep them on to long like a whole month but if you do get fake nails and want to keep them on for a long time then you have to get them done over and over agian but it is up to you if you want to have them
Just grow your nails out. You're only 12. :D

Is it dangerous to go into a nail salon while pregnant?

Just wondering if the chemicals or anything in a nail salon was of any harm to a pregnancy? I thought it was, but others have told me no.Is it dangerous to go into a nail salon while pregnant?
As well as breathing in chemicals your skin absorbs chemicals too, why risk it if you're going to the effort of avoiding alcohol, cigarettes and legal and illegal drugs to keep your baby safe?Is it dangerous to go into a nail salon while pregnant?
the chemicals they use in a nail salon is pretty harsh and usually turns into vapor pretty quickly. Short exposures to the fumes won't hurt but prolonged exposure can cause problems to the bun in the oven. it also depends on if they are venting the fumes in the salon and the amount of various chemicals in the air. the question is: how long is too long? i don't really know but i would say if you or someone your with is pregnant get in and get out asap.
I wanted to go to the nail salon with my friend in the beginning of my pregnancy and I called my doctor and she told me the only way I should go in is if I wear a face mask haha. So I didn't go. I take it the chemicals can be harmful. I am sure it wouldn't necessarily hurt the baby going in once but I didn't chance it.
I've researched on this topic for the longest time - I found nothing. The effect of the fumes on the fetus is not known. I've seen pregnant women who WORK in these salons and they seem to be fine. There hasn't been many studies/statistics to prove if it is or if it isn't safe.

I personally, wouldn't go in the nail salon while pregnant...especially if the smell was really strong.
NOt really...its more dangerous to work in a nail shop while pregnant because thats constant inhalation/contact with the chemicals and fumes. But just going to get a mani and pedi shouldnt be too bad.
i wouldn't go to a nail salon if i was in my early stages, the chemicals are not good for a pregnant or non pregnant woman
i went in for a pedicure when i was like ...14 weeks? and my pregnancy's going just fine so far. lol.
I wouldn't go because of the strong fumes.
It's 100% lethal. Such risky work so close to the baby should never be risked

How do you figure the tip at a salon when many people serve you?

At the salon, the bill is usually about $110 for shampoo/deep conditioner/cut/style/dry.

They have so many people supply the services. One person shampoos, another puts in the deep conditioner, then the shampoo person comes back and rinses, then a third person does the cut/style, and sometimes a fourth person dries.

I'm confused about who to tip, and how much. I know I should be tipping about 15%, but how to divide it?? Do I have to go over the %% to give everybody a decent tip, or just give the whole thing to the stylist?

I've had this happen at the nail salon, too. The manicure/pedicure special is $30, but one person manicures, then a 2nd person puts on the polish, then a 3rd person does the pedicure, and a 4th puts on the polish, and sometimes a 5th person will do the topcoat!

How do I split $5 fairly between so many people? Sometimes I feel like I should be wearing one of those change belts that bus drivers wear. How do you figure the tip at a salon when many people serve you?
Give the tip to the last person who helps you, they'll divide it up on their own.How do you figure the tip at a salon when many people serve you?
15 - 20% is standard. And since I'm in the service industry, I can tell you that they take care of the split. It may not be even, but it will be a fair share.
    Good question.

Just leave one tip and let them decide how to ration it.
give 15% of 110 which would be 16.50. i suggest 10 to the stylist, 2 bucks to the person washing ur hair, 2 bucks to the person drying it, 2 bucks to the person doing the conditioning.
I don't think any tip is necessary, unless you are dining out. You have already paid a fortune for the hair-do.. why loose more money?
Just let them figure it out.
whoever is taking money at the checkout gets it...then they can work it out
I take the chicken approach. I use my credit/debit card and add 15% that way.
at my salon the girls that do the other stuff....shampoos, rinse etc are all in training and my tip goes to my stylist. but if you are unsure and you have been going there a while ask your stylist, she will be able to advise you.

Recommend a salon that does scene hair layering for girls?

I like how the layers in the back blend well, while keeping your hair long. Something that stylists in the past always said would look stupid, NOW looks pretty good to me.

How much are you suppse to tip when you get a hair cut at the salon?

Obviously if it's a gOod haircut you should tip right . . ? but how much ?How much are you suppse to tip when you get a hair cut at the salon?
Think like your at a resturaunt, 15% minimum, more depending on the level of service, and your happiness with the result. How much are you suppse to tip when you get a hair cut at the salon?
    I give about $2
Generally 15-20% depending on how good they do.
    Typically 15-20%
5 dollar or less depend on ur satisfaction.
20 % of the cost. remember this is other people cutting your hair.
just as you do at a restaurant according to the amount of the bill you would take a percentage of that and tip accordingly

10 to 15 percent of the total bill is sufficient
    none

How much do you tip at the nail salon?

I live in houston and I was just wondering what other people tip for full sets and eyebrow waxing. I seem to always get weird looks when i tip $2 for the eyebrow wax. Is that not enough? Thanks ;)How much do you tip at the nail salon?

I have an easy hair color (black, so i definitely do it at home, it's hard to match hair extensions of any other color
salon. i learned the hard way after trying to save money and doing it at home. from now on, only a hairdresser for me.
i have mine done at a professional salon
ALWAYS DONE MY HAIRCOLOR AT HOME. AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. I VE SAVED HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS DOING IT MYSELF. PROFESSIONALLS CHARGE WAY TO MUCH MONEY. BUT I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAYING FOR THE BOOTH SPACE AND THE PRODUCTS AND THE TIME AND LABOR.
I do, but it is black!!
at home, either me or a friend do each others hair ... we used a toothbrush to put random highlights in our hair the other day, looks awsome , everyone asks what salon did we go to..lmao
I color my hair at home. It costs a fraction of what a salon would charge and I like the color better than what they use. I don't think I'd go for hot pink though.
    i do
I do mine at home my self. the last time i went to the salon and had it done. I went in wanting one color which was a golden blonde with red highlightsd and i came out with Dark Brown hair. I mean dark brown. I had to color strip it and fix it. still cant get rid of the brown.
oh me. I cover gray, highlight and do it about once a month. AT HOME.
That's really cool!!!! I highlight my hair but my friend does it cuz she has a salon in her garage.
I color my hair at home and have been doing it since a hair sylist messed up my hair a few yrs. ago. It's cheaper and I enjoy doing it.
that is so awesome. my cousin just did that to her hair.

i highlight my hair all the time. its really bad but i get sick of a color every few months so i go change it. lol
i get my hair coloured at gene juarez

just because they always have made my hair look amazing

    i mean...ya its expensive

but if thats what i've got to pay

    i'll pay it

and for you colouring your sisters hair pink

i think its good that people experiment with colour

i just got my hair dyed red

    and it looks sooo good

use semi-permenint colour if your experimenting

because im pretty sure i wouldnt want my hair tinted pink forever
i preffer natural hair, no chemicals no strange cuts, just me
well, my answer is that; I'm a beauty-school drop-out. I do believe that I have been every color of the rainbow, except, I haven't tried black yet. I have even been roxy-red, which ended up looking like, barney, purple..And now I'm trying not to let the gray, overrule my head..

Haha! :) I love those colors! They look awesome! and I don't go often..my sister is really good at doing nails but I usually go like every couple months or so (Since I had surgery on my toe..I'm not really supposed to get anything done to it!! lol)How often do you go to a nail salon?
I go every other week to get a manicure, always french.

I don't get a pedicure as often every 3 weeks.

Sometimes it's more as certain weekends after clubbing I sometimes manage to destroy them :(

Although me and my best friend have had as tradition since we were like 10 to get certain colours done at certain times of the year so some months I get one done at least 3 times. Like for St Patricks day we always have them done green and Easter yellow/orange.

Personally I'm not a big fan of having colours done except midnight blue or red if it's just for every day wear.
Used to go every 2-3 weeks

get white tips on nails and white tips painted on toes...

but now I do them myself like half the price and most of all dont have to wait!!
    i go every 3-4 weeks.

I get a full mani pedi ; usually french mani pedi

    =)
I go as a treat. When I have been walking a ton. I get manipedi, usually just classic red. Always natural nails.
Every month. You should go to the doctor.
I go every 3 weeks, and get gel done. French manicure :)

What do you ask for at the hair salon when you want your hair layered but your ends thin?

it's really hard to explain, but that's why i'm asking. i got my hair done a month ago and i got layers but the hairstylist only layered like the top half of my hair, and left the bottom half cut bluntly at the same length with no layers whatsoever. i'm getting my hair cut again next week and i don't want this to happen again because i hate blunt cuts. Should i just ask for thinned out ends...? Or how exactly would I explain it?

If you have problems understanding my explanation just tell me.What do you ask for at the hair salon when you want your hair layered but your ends thin?
well you could bring in a pic to show them exactly want you want....but if you cant find one you could ask them to layer your hair and then thin it out....or show them specifically where you want the layers to fall. If you need to, you can just tell the hairstylist exactly what you're telling us.....ends thinWhat do you ask for at the hair salon when you want your hair layered but your ends thin?
Just tell him/her to layer all of your hair
i know what your talking about. different places have different ways of saying it. i'd say bring a picture so they know exactly what you want.
ask for it to either be cut with a razor if you want it really wispy or have them notch it (you might not like the razor cause it gives it a more dry wispy look. i love doing the notching). let them know you don't like the blunt look. tell them you want lots of layers which i believe it called increased layers. i'm guessing they cut your hair pulling it all straight up which doesn't give it enough layering in my opinion. if you have thick hair have them thin it out for you. hope this helps.

I have a white patch of hair that I want to get dyed at a salon?

I've always had a patch of hair that is completely white (I think its a birthmark). I've always dyed it myself but itself but I can't get the hair dye to match the color of the rest of my hair. If i go to a hair stylist will they be able to dye the white spot so that it matches the color of the rest of my hair? Or will I have to get all of my hair dyed a different color to get it to match?I have a white patch of hair that I want to get dyed at a salon?
A good colorist should be able to match it so you cannot detect it at all. If you are using men's color you probably can't get it close to your natural color because there aren't enough color choices. With women's color there are far more choices and you should be able to get very close to your natural color if you experiment. You can also mix colors of the same brand and type of coloring, and you don't need to mix the entire bottle of color and developer. Check the volume of each bottle and then mix appropriate parts in a small volume to color the patch.

Good Luck!I have a white patch of hair that I want to get dyed at a salon?
they can get it fairly close, but they might not be able to match it completely. they have hair samples to go off of, and unless your hair color is really out there i think you should be ok.
you shud definitely go to a pro. they cud get it CLOSEE to your hair color, but you might have to re-dye it all. but if you like your color now ask for a color VERY close to your hair color now.
you should just dye it all.

    much easier .

you can do it at home

There is a lot of ';salons de coiffure'; which are franchise and very affordable (20 to 30 euros for a shampoo cut and blow dry).

Their names are: ';Saint Algue'; ';Frank Provost'; etc... ou can find them on almost every business street or shopping mall in Paris and everywhere else. Their prices are usually on the front window so you can compare.

You can ask for a ';shampooing, coupe, brushing'; which is the usual combo and look wonderful in 40 minutes! They are pretty crafty with theirs scissors and blowdryers. If you go on week days you don't really need an appointment, if you plan on going during the week end, make one theyare crowded.

But before you disregard me, my stylist once told me that she had the freedom to bring clients or a friend into the salon on days or evenings that it was closed. So if you've been with the same stylist for awhile, you may want to ask her or him if this is something he or she is willing to do when you're in a pinch.Does anyone know if there is a hair salon open before 9am?
Why don't you ask the salon? We don't know about VA on the west coast.

I've worked in salons that opened at 8 or sooner. Some people like to get started early. Some stay open late. Ask the salon. The stylist may be able to come in earlier if you wanted.

You can buy tanning stickers as almost any beauty supply store- try Sally's- at a tanning salon, or you could buy one online. I know ebay has them there, as well. There really isn't much of a difference and you'd be just as fine buying them anywhere else then spending more money at a salon.

  • Has anyone ever gotten their hair done at the beauty school instead of the salon?

I am asking, because I would like to have a few things done to my hair, that I know would cost a small fortune at the salon. I have heard that I can get the exact same services at half the price by going to the school and letting the students do it. Is that true? And if so, has anyone done it? Would you care to share your experiences? Thanks in advance!Has anyone ever gotten their hair done at the beauty school instead of the salon?
Getting your hair done at a beauty school is usually half or less then what you would pay at a salon. I know at my school if you get your hair done by a student who is working on the salon floor chances are you will get a very good job done. The students have their teachers there to seek guidance and to supervise. Some people do take advantage of the situation though.

I would say that as a student you are very conscientious about what they are doing and if they aren't sure of themselves will seek help from a teacher.

Right now my class is doing a curriculum that requires us to work on clients and offer free services. Everything is free except things involving chemicals, like color. For those services they client ends up paying only for the chemicals being used.

You could literally get a facial, manicure, pedicure, shampoo, cut blow dry and style or for nothing.

Not only are you getting the student's time and effort but you are getting the teacher's time because all of the teachers keep a close eye on what is being done.

If you choose to go to a beauty school please bear in mind that the students are not being paid anything. If you like the services you received for half price please do tip. Especially if you run into a chance like at my school to receive all this for free - a tip really helps to make a student feel good about what they did and increases their confidence.

Good luck and go for it - I don't know where you live but you are in for a surprise when you see what you can get at a discounted price.Has anyone ever gotten their hair done at the beauty school instead of the salon?
I did this once and it turned out great. Then again, I always went to Fantastic Sams to get my hair cut which is so not worth the 16 dollars. When I went they have the consultation like always but their supervisor/mentor is there with them and they talk about the technique they need to use for the haircut you ask for. It does take a lot longer than it normally would because a few times my hairstylist had to find her supervisor to ask how to do the next step in completing the haircut. It's well worth the wait though.
The prices are good! I wouldnt really worry about them messing up bc they do have a teacher that is watching them. and when your finish the teacher comes back and checks it. Also the only thing i would say is to make sure u have up to three hours. they are still learning so it will take longer.
I have had my hair done there a few times. All around they do a good job. The only thing is that it takes twice as long. If you are looking to get your hair bleached and have the slightest amount of damage they will not touch your hair.

    Good luck hun
No, but once I went to a dentistry school as a kid and had the students work on my teeth. It worked out OK.

What is your favorite salon brand shampoo and conditioner?

NOT from a store, from an actual salon.

Tell me why too please :-)What is your favorite salon brand shampoo and conditioner?
    Bed Head Shampoo and Conditioner.

You can get them at the store, too, but they are

    considered salon hair treatments.

I like them because.. Well it works really well

and it keeps your hair soft :DWhat is your favorite salon brand shampoo and conditioner?
HerStyler! I'd like to suggest a natural daily hair care regime - why? - to give you healthy fantastic hair all of the time!

I'd begin with HerStyler shampoo and conditioner daily and also the styling spray (if you use hair spray), the hair mask is a must (for deep conditioning and repairing dry, damaged or frizzy hair and prolonging haircolour) and also the serum is a must prior to using hair irons or blow dryers (to protect your hair during styling, make it incredibly silky, smooth and shiny and to create and hold your style all day in any weather. You will notice fantastic results immediately and so will your friends (read my 'guestbook'). When you use quality products they are very economical as you only need a tiny bit, so they go a long way.

Please visit my web-store at https://www.infashionsense.com/ and click on the ';HERSTYLER VIDEO %26amp; FAQS'; button to find out more about HerStyler natural plants-protein and olive oil hair care products composed of minerals from the dead-sea. I hope this helps!

    I LOVE IT!!!!

How much does it cost to set up a beauty salon on average, including equipment and altering costs?

A lot. I can't say an average. It depends where you set it up, how big the place is, how much equipment you need, whether you have staff and all sorts.

Best idea is to write down what you think you will need and work out a rough estimate

Is it better to get a mystic tan from a booth or get a spray tan from a salon employee?

I'm going out of town this weekend and wanted to get tanned the day before. What are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks! Is it better to get a mystic tan from a booth or get a spray tan from a salon employee?
i would rather get a spray tan from an employee because it's more efficient and it looks a lot better and some of the mystic tans make u look like an orange trust me i have seen it happenIs it better to get a mystic tan from a booth or get a spray tan from a salon employee?
i like mystic tanning, but that's just because i get uncomfortable if i'm naked around other people.
both are good, i really like mystics, but if an employee does it they are trained to get every spot that the mystic MIGHT miss...
